Awards and Funding

The annual PHC Research and Mission Award recognizes a scientist in our organization who demonstrates the mission and values of Providence Health Care while conducting outstanding research. 

This award includes a plaque, a documentary video highlighting their work, and a $2,000.00 cash award fund to be used towards a mission-driven project of their choice within PHC.

Nomin​​​​​ations

Nominations should include examples that demonstrate how the nominee lives our Providence Health Care vision and values.

• There is no limit to the number of nominations any one person may submit.
• Nominations must all by typewritten and submitted to Grace Jenkins, Communications Coordinator, Providence Research, at gjenkins1@providencehealth.bc.ca  by Friday February 24, 2023.

The PHC Practice-based Research Challenge is an annual competition open to point-of-care PHC staff. The Research Challenge offers research teams the opportunity to work with a mentor to develop a research proposal around a research question. They will learn basic research skills and compete with other teams for funding to conduct a small-scale research project.

Knowledge Translation is the art and science of moving evidence into health care policy and practice.

Have you identified a need for practice improvement? Your knowledge translation (KT) project will help you integrate evidence into best practices.

The PHC and VCH Knowledge Translation Challenge will:

• Support staff who do not have knowledge translation experience
• Help design your own KT project
• Provide easy access to KT resources, mentorship and funding

The intent of this competition is to support early career clinician investigators by providing funds that will help them explore questions identified in the early stages of their medical profession.

Thanks to St. Paul’s Foundation (SPF) support and the Carraresi Foundation’s contribution, Providence Research is pleased to fund two research projects of up to $35,000 each. SPF and Providence Research are grateful to the Carraresi Foundation in Memory of Augusto Carraresi for its interest in supporting an early career research program at St. Paul’s Hospital.

Project Guidelines  

• Project must fit within the vision of Providence Health Care (PHC) and Providence Research's research priorities;
• Have a full budget of a maximum of $35,000;
• Have an anticipated timeline of no more than 18 months, with potential for one six-month extension (utilizing existing and not additional project funds), and;
• Take place primarily at or through St. Paul’s Hospital and have the potential of benefiting patients and/or families of St. Paul’s Hospital.

Eligibility Criteria

• Applicants have completed their professional training, whether as a medical doctor or in another health field (e.g. pharmacy, physiotherapy, nursing);
• Applicants conduct their work at PHC sites;
• Applicants have not received the Early Career Clinician Investigator Award in the past;
• Applicants have completed their most recent formal training within the previous five years, and;
• Applicants intend to distribute their findings (whether positive or negative) through publication or otherwise.
